DAY 1 To Kathmandu

Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to the Soaltee Crowne Plaza for 2 nights.

DAY 2 Kathmandu

Morning tour of Kathmandu. Afternoon visit to the temple at Pashupatinath and Bodhnath, a religious centre for Nepal’s considerable Tibetan population. B

DAY 3 Paro

Morning flight to Paro. Drive to the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu. Afternoon city tour includes the National Library. BLD

DAY 4 Thimphu

Morning sightseeing in Thimphu, including the National Memorial Chorten. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner with a local family. BLD

DAY 5 Punakha

Travel to Punakha. Visit a traditional farmhouse for an authentic village experience. BLD

DAY 6 Punakha

Morning tour of Punakha, including the Punakha Dzong, a 17th century fortress. Afternoon visit to the Nalanda Buddhist Institute to meet with Buddhist monks. BLD

DAY 7 Gangtey

Drive past dense oak and rhododendron forests, colourful prayer flags and picturesque Himalayan scenery via Dochula Pass (3,100m).BLD

DAY 8 Gangtey

Morning visit to Ta Dzong and Trongsa Dzong, a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture built in 1647. BLD

DAY 9 Bumthang

Proceed to Bumthang, one of the most spectacular valleys in Bhutan. BLD

DAY 10 Bumthang

Morning visit to Kurje Lhakhang, regarded as one of the most sacred places in the kingdom. Continue to Jambey Lhakhang Temple, erected by Tibetan kings in the seventh century. At Tamshing Lhakhang see the ancient Buddhist wall paintings and visit Jakar Dzong, a former monastery. BLD

DAY 11 Paro

Drive to Paro and stay 2 nights at the Tashi Namgay Resort*. BLD

DAY 12 Tiger's Nest – Rinpung Dzong

Morning trek to Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest). The monastery is perched on a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of more than 800m. The return walk takes about five hours. Afternoon visit to Rinpung Dzong and Ta Dzong, the national museum. Enjoy a cooking class in spicy Bhutanese cuisine. BLD

DAY 13 Kathmandu

Morning flight to Kathmandu. Stay overnight at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza Hotel. B

DAY 14 Kathmandu

Transfer to the airport to continue your journey. B
